The last few years has seen a lot of interest surfacing in retro patio furniture and it’s not only the babyboomer generation trying to relive it’s youth. Nowadays many of the younger generation are seeing retro furniture as trendy and functional additions to their outdoor patio furniture. The bright colors and sometimes extravagant designs are looked upon as a way to bring the retro era into the 21st century.
HISTORY OF RETRO PATIO FURNITURE
The retro era refers to remarkable 30 year period from the 1950′s to the 1970′s. It started post second world war when people were looking at bringing color, and vitality back into their lives, the very opposite of the bleak war years.. This was reflected in clothing, cars, housing, music and indoor and outdoor furniture. It was a period of creativeness and ingenious design. It was the start of a new era in furniture design that also included retro patio furniture. With the second world war behind them, people were able to devote their time to creating things that would enhance their own lives and so many new materials were put to use, designs became bolder and prints and fabrics became loud and flowing in design. The United States was one of the first countries to get into this “new world” retro revolution and it soon spread throughout the western world and is now making a comeback.

When it comes outdoor and patio furniture, the popularity of the retro styles is becoming more and more popular. This popularity fueled not only by the bold and vibrant colors, the designs and the vast array of different historic styles that can really lift any outdoor living area but also by the robustness of the furniture.. Retro patio furniture is available in a wide range of different materials ranging from the classic cane and wicker outdoor furniture of the 50′s to the steel furniture of the 1960′s to synthetic and plastic patio settings of the 70′s. When it comes to durability and ease of maintenance these cannot be beaten.
